The ‘Flying-V,’ a Fuel-Efficient Alternative, Built By Delft Technical University , Just Flew for the First Time

A scaled version of the V-Wing made its first flight, showing that alternative designs could become long-distance aircraft of the future.

A scale model of the “Flying-V,” an experimental aircraft design with huge wings, took flight recently in Germany. The blended-wing aircraft concept is a project by Delft Technical University (TU Delft) in the Netherlands, with financial support by KLM Airlines. It was recently flown from a German airbase, with the support of a team from Airbus.

The Flying-V was designed as a fuel-efficient, long-range aircraft in which the passenger seating, fuel tanks and baggage hold are built into the wings. Research shows that the unusual design stands to gain up to 20 percent better fuel efficiency than an Airbus A350 jetliner, considered today’s most advanced design. It’s also about 15 percent more aerodynamically efficient than conventional aircraft. At full scale, the Flying-V would seat 314 passengers in two classes.

The scale model was controlled via radio link by a student from TU Delft, who flew it like a drone. Its two 4kW electric “ducted fan” engines were powered by a lithium polymer battery. The student moved the Flying-V through a series of maneuvers, including takeoff, turns and approaches, and landing.Lead

The unusual design would put passengers, fuel tanks and baggage in the oversized wings. KLM

“One of our worries was that the aircraft might have some difficulty lifting-off, since previous calculations had shown that ‘rotation’ could be an issue,” Roelof Vos, an assistant professor of flight performance and propulsion at TU Delft, told Flightglobal.com. “The team optimized the scaled flight model to prevent the issue. But you need to fly to know for sure.”

Vos said that the aircraft’s thrust was strong, and that flight speeds and angles happened just as the team had predicted. The scale model had “somewhat of a rough landing,” said Vos, because of the aircraft’s shape and difficulty in keeping the wings level. That had been predicted, he said, in the initial data. The team will use the flight data to build an aerodynamic version of the scaled model.scale

Partners: Dutch airlines KLM places sustainability as a top priority, while the aviation department at TU Delft University wants to design an emissions-free long-haul aircraft. KLM

“The design fits within our Fly Responsibly initiative, which stands for everything we are doing and will do to improve our sustainability,” said Pieter Elbers, KLM president and CEO, in a statement, following the successful flight. “We want a sustainable future for aviation and innovation is part of that.”

KLM announced last year that it was building a full-scale mockup of the interior, which it planned to display in October as part of its 100-year anniversary.

Designing a restroom doesn’t sound that challenging as all one needs is just a shower, tub, toilet, and sink. How difficult is that? Turned out it’s not as simple as you think because some home designers still evidently manage to mess up dramatically, creating bathrooms that are bad yet hilarious.

One can only guess what went through the designer’s mind when designing a bathroom that appears like a judgment room. As much as we hate to admit, we often use the bathroom from time to time and must have come across an unusual badly designed, or perhaps arranged bathrooms.

Anyways, here are hellish bathrooms evidently designed by people who possibly haven’t used one before. Is this possible?

Why Trump Should Be Weary Of The Protest And Covid 19

With a close look at the murder scene of Floyd, one would notice that it was a planed attempt to murder a black man by a white cop who has bad history Well captured in camera, to spark protest. Knowing that this action has always been a time bomb waiting for explosion, with the lock down in place people will easily be mobilized for protest and owing to the slow nature of American Justice System the protest will go on for enough time to enable the the plans of some American Elite to paint Trump evil, racist, that does not have regard for black life. and as they know he will come out direct and in many ways and eventually do some wrongs. The timing with Covid 19 is a much more calculated attempt, The reason trump should be weary of this protest and trend with caution.

Their plan is to make Blacks and majority of Americans see Trump as a racist president, and try to give people reason to believe that he is not a president for all, That they have a better choice which is not likely Joe Biden and people will fall for him base on sympathy. If the protest is not checked, there will be lots of damages as what started as a protest we become a blown internal war with external interference that can not be contained. yes this is made possible by some external force who are not happy with trump mode of leadership and operand. Like Nigeria the people of US if allowed they this to happen, will regret this forever as Trump will be the last president to restore God glory to the United state of America.

As you share and talk about the protest know that you are pushing forward the Agenda of the few elite and the external powers. who are in the same Agenda as covid19. and sure by now we all know their Agenda.

Trump is not the enemy but the saint who might not last long the reason he and us all who are not for their agenda has to be weary.

COVID-19: Nigerian airports set for reopening, passengers issued warning

Published 18 hours ago

ByIfreke Inyang

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said it has put in place arrangements on passenger facilitation, ahead of resumption of flights.

The General Manager Corporate Affairs of FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, stated this while speaking at an aviation webinar organised by Women in Aviation (WIA) Nigeria with the theme: “Aviation: The New Norm in the post COVID-19.”

Yakubu warned passengers to expect delays and long hours of checks and re-checks from when they arrive the airport until they depart.

She said noted escorts of VIPs would no longer be allowed to follow their principals into the terminal.

“We are going to expect flight delays, flights will experience delays from checks and re-checks. If you are travelling, I will expect a potential traveler to leave home hours before his flight. Why do I say this?

“Because there is going to be a lot of checks in the front of the terminal we have been told that some may activities and procedures will take place in front of the terminal. So air travelers are expected to leave home very early so that they can get to the airport on time,” Yakubu said.

Police in riot gear fire rubber bullets and tear gas at thousands of protesters demanding the arrest of four white Minneapolis cops involved in the death of black man George Floyd

Police in riot gear fire rubber bullets and tear gas at thousands of protestors demanding the arrest of four white Minneapolis cops involved in the death of black man George Floyd

Minneapolis cops in riot gear have fired rubber bullets at thousands of defiant protesters who took to the streets to demand justice for George Floyd, the black man who died after a white officer was filmed kneeling on his neck during his arrest.

Demonstrators carrying placards reading ‘I can’t breathe’ and ‘Justice 4 Floyd’ surrounded a police precinct Tuesday night after the disturbing video of 46-year-old Floyd begging the cop to stop before falling unconscious was shared online.

Four members of the Minneapolis Police Department who were involved in Monday’s incident have now been fired, and the FBI and state law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the man’s death.

The victim’s heartbroken family have called for the cops to be charged with murder and their lawyer revealed white cop Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for a staggering eight minutes during the arrest for forgery.

Floyd worked as a security guard at Conga Latin Bistro, a local bistro in Minneapolis. The bar’s owners have described him as a ‘very calm, nice guy’ who was not the type to be ‘aggressive, disrespectful’.

The demonstrators demanded the arrest of the four officers but were met with rubber bullets and tear gas fired by masked cops as the city’s streets descended into chaos.

Some had their faces doused in milk to limit the effects of the gas while others ran for cover.

The peaceful event turned ugly as it continued into the night, with footage showing both police and protesters hurling things at each other.

Police in riot gear were pictured forming a barrier around the precinct from around 7.30pm as swarms of people marched on the building, reported CBS Local.

Footage then revealed some protesters sitting on the ground, while officers threw smoke bombs, tear gas and flash grenades into the crowds.

At one point, a car was seen being struck by a tear gas canister as people ran away.

Images showed people who had gathered for the rally desperately fleeing as rubber bullets and tear gas rained down on them.

In one picture, a man was seen holding his hands up in a gesture that started in the ‘Hands up, don’t shoot’ movement in Ferguson in 2014, following the fatal shooting of black 18-year-old Michael Brown by a white police officer.

Others hid behind shopping carts from the Target store nearby.

Shawanda Hill, the girlfriend of George Floyd, was pictured at the rally near the spot where her boyfriend died being comforted by other protesters as she choked back tears of grief.

A reporter for Star Tribune, Andy Mannix, said in a Twitter post that he was shot in the thigh with a rubber bullet while covering the protests, as tensions mounted between law enforcement and the protesters.

The demonstrators hit back at the police too, with some seen throwing bricks and rocks at police vehicles and smashing up the car windows.

One man was seen launching a large brick onto an empty squad car.

There have been reports of at least one officer injured in the chaos.

Hundreds of people began gathering at the intersection of E 38th St and Chicago Avenue in the city during the afternoon, ahead of a planned march of around two miles from the site of Floyd’s arrest to the police precinct.

One woman was seen wearing a face mask with the phrase ‘I can’t breathe’ written across her mouth.

Protesters raised their fists and sported face masks to protect them from the spread of COVID-19 as they gathered for the rally near the spot where Floyd died.

The clashes between police and protesters came as Floyd’s devastated family broke their silence over his death and said the firing of the four officers involved was just ‘a start’ and that the cops ‘murdered our cousin’.

Two of Floyd’s cousins spoke of their heartache to TMX.news, while the family’s lawyer called for white cop Derek Chauvin to be charged with murder and the other three officers involved charged as murder accomplices.

Shareeduh Tate, one of Floyd’s cousins, told how she watched the horrific footage on TV before realizing it was her ‘baby cousin’.

‘I actually saw it before knowing it was my cousin – I saw it on Gayle King,’ said Shareeduh Tate.

‘And I remember thinking how devastating this would be for the family who have lost their family member like this… then about five minutes after that I got a phone call saying that it was my cousin.’

She thanked the bystanders who were heard in the footage urging the police to stop what they were doing and warning them that they were killing Floyd.

‘I can’t thank them enough. We always see these kinds of things take place and we always wonder what we would do in that position and we’re so grateful… and even more so grateful for the person who was there with a camera to capture it as so many times there is not a witness around and it’s questionable as to what has happened,’ Tate said.

Floyd’s other cousin Tera Brown called the footage ‘unbelievable’.

‘It’s unbelievable to see someone suffering in the way that he did,’ she said. ‘And to have so many people around asking for them to basically allow him to live.’

Tate said the firing of the four police officers was ‘a start’ but is ‘definitely not enough’ as she blasted the authorities for ‘murdering’ the father-of-one.

‘They murdered our cousin,’ she said.

Brown described him as ‘the cousin that everybody loved’ who was ‘always happy’ and a ‘jokester’.

‘He was everybody’s favorite everything – he was the favorite friend, the favorite cousin,’ she added.

She said news of his death has been especially hard on Floyd’s daughter who she said is ‘not doing well’.

Ben Crump, the attorney for the victim’s family has demanded officers face murder charges over the killing and said this is ‘worse than Eric Garner’ because the officers held Floyd down by the neck for a staggering eight minutes.

Crump pointed to the similarities in the case with the death of unarmed black man Garner who died in 2014 after he was placed in a chokehold by New York City police and pleaded for his life, saying he could not breathe.

Parallels have already been drawn between the two cases but Crump described Floyd’s death as even ‘worse’.

‘I mean it was 8 minutes. It is in many ways worse than Eric Garner as they have his knees on his neck and he is begging, pleading for not one minute, not two minutes, not three minutes but eight minutes – begging them to let him breathe so we have ‘we can’t breathe’ again in 2020,’ he said.

‘It just takes you back to Eric Garner and now we have another black man saying to police ‘I can’t breathe’ and them not offering any humanity.’

Crump said news that the officers had been fired was a ‘good first step’ but said it does not go far enough to getting justice for the dead man.

‘I think the officer should be charged with murder,’ Crump told TMX.news, about Derek Chauvin, who has been identified as the cop who held Floyd down by the neck.

I returned from Makurdi Benue State to catch a flight to Paris during one of my visits to Nigeria. I had only two days left to depart. I figured, I should apply for a Nigerian ATM card; therefore, I decided to go into United Bank for Africa (UBA) Nigeria, AP Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja, Nigeria to do it.

When I entered the bank, I was dressed very casual. I met two customer relations officers in their seats. I walked to the first lady (not this one in this picture) when it was my turn to be seen. The first customer relation officer started helping me, but had to ask her colleague seen in this picture to help me to the finish. On this day, the pessure coming from impatient clients was high. To make matters worst, the bank had an obnoxious and extremely rude supervisor on duty. This supervisor was pregnant – I found out later. Perhaps, she was having some pregnancy related issues, I wasn’t sure.

At one point into the whole process, another pretty Yoruba lady, who handles the BVN operations in the bank had to attend to me. She was quite friendly and interacted very kindly with me. Later, I was asked to go back to this lady in this picture. She did all she could and asked that I return the next day to pick up my card; not very pleased, I said, alright and left.

The next day, I returned to the bank just as I was planning to fly out to Paris 6 hours later. I was at the bank and the card was not ready. I was unhappy, but did not express it. This customer relations officer again asked that I return to pick the card at 3:00 PM. Meanwhile, the bank was going to close at 4:00 PM. My flight was at 11:55PM. I became apprehensive, but calm. I left the bank and returned at 3:00 PM to the obnoxious bank supervisor, who rudely walked away instead of completing her portion of the process, which was the last thing I needed. This customer relations officer who was now apparently caught between her supervisor and I, was visibly irritated because I had been a well-behaved and patient client. At this point, not knowing where I came from and where I was headed, I told her I will need to travel out of Abuja later that day, and I will appreciate getting my card before leaving. Just about 15 minutes to 4:00 PM, this customer relations officer went to the back office to call on the supervisor to come complete the process, but she refused to come out, claiming she wasn’t feeling well. I was startled, appalled beyond belief and angry at this point. This customer relations officer decided to call on another supervisor of their bank system, who was about 10 minutes drive away from her branch, to activate the card for me.

When the other supervisor agreed to help out, we drove there in the company of three other persons, who were with me. When we got there, the branch had closed their gates, but we were allowed in because of this kind customer relations officer, who wanted to help me out. My card was activated. I gave her taxi money to get back to her branch when she was ready to leave, she declined and said, she just did her job. I begged her to accept it, she declined. Determined to appreciate her professional kindness, I asked for phone number to reach out to her later, she also declined and said, if there was any need to contact me regarding my account status, the bank will reach out to me at the number (Nigerian number) which I left for the bank when I started my ATM application process. I thanked her and left.

I went to the airport, but I missed my flight that night. Perplexed and unhappy, I left the airport and rebooked my flight to leave on the next available flight scheduled for two days later.

Finally, I arrived in Paris safely. As I was going to catch another flight to New York, I received a call but the number was not showing on my phone, the caller was this customer relations officer. She called with a blocked number to tell me that the bank was trying to reach out to me because I needed a certain balance in my type of account, otherwise, the ATM won’t work. She said, she had to pay in some money into my account so the card will work and I can refund her as soon as I can. At this point, I was beyond impressed with her extreme kindness and for the first time, I revealed to her that I was in Paris and headed to New York. I requested that she send me her names and bank account information through my listed email for me to refund her.

When I arrived New York, I promptly transferred her money with some extra change to appreciate her. After that day, I occasionally emailed her to check on her. Much later, I was able to get her phone number shortly after she came out of a long distance relationship that wasn’t working. Though I knew she became single, I was not interested in her at all. I continued to offer her useful advise when there was a need.

Two years later, I needed to get married, she then occurred to me. I reached out and skillfully verified she was single. On another visit to Nigeria, I decided to proposed to her. Today, this professional and benevolent customer relations officer is NKEM.

Since I became her husband, I have tried to be very helpful like washing dishes, cleaning the house, cooking emptying the garbage, cleaning the bathroom; I do groceries, I do laundry and I ensure that she is always fine. Part of the reasons that I do these things – besides providing for her, is not only to fulfil my obligations as a husband, but it is to continue to repay her great act of kindness that captured my attention.

My friends, Abubakar Auwal Muhd Gamjee and Abba Kyari call her the UBA lady, who stole their friend’s heart.

If you can’t be anything, be #KIND!
